"Technologies of the Visual", University of Manchester, 7-9 January 2008

This conference is the first in a triennial series held by Manchester's Centre for Research in the Visual Cultures of the French-Speaking World.

Proposals for 20-minute papers, in English or French, are invited from researchers working in any field of French Studies connected with the visual, whatever the period, medium, or context.

The conference seeks to investigate the influence of changing media and technologies, in any historical context, on the understanding and use of “the visual” in French-speaking cultures. Appropriate subjects thus include printing, cinema, painting, photography, woodcut, engraving, lithography, half-tone, offset, digitisation, television, and video, to name only a few.

Proposals, consisting of a title and 250-word abstract, should be submitted to Adrian Armstrong (adrian.armstrong@manchester.ac.uk) by 30 June 2007.
