FIXED-TERM STIPENDIARY LECTURESHIP IN FRENCH
Wadham College seeks to appoint a fixed-term 9-hour Stipendiary Lecturer in French from October 2012 to September 2015 to support the work of the College’s Tutorial Fellow in French, Professor Christina Howells.
The lecturer will be based at Wadham College and will be required to give nine hours per week of tutorials during the eight weeks of full term, taking a share in the teaching of the first-year literature and commentary papers in collaboration with Professor Howells. For the Final Honours School students, the lecturer will be expected to teach 18th century literature, as
well as literature from at least one, and preferably two, other centuries: 16th, 17th, 19th, 20th. Preference may be given to an Early Modern specialist. The lecturer will also be expected to carry out the normal duties of a College tutor, including setting and marking collections (internal termly examinations), writing reports and discussing them with students at end-of-term meetings, assisting with admissions, and sharing responsibility for the pastoral care of undergraduate students. There might be an opportunity to undertake some Faculty teaching or other inter-collegiate duties for which there would be additional remuneration.
The successful candidate will have a doctorate in French and should be actively undertaking research. S/he should be an experienced tutor and will be expected to demonstrate strong teaching skills and appropriate teaching range in their application.
The stipend will be on a scale from £18,390 - £18,938 for the year, subject to revision in line with national adjustments to University teachers' salaries, and the position is superannuable under USS. The lecturer will have use of a room for teaching, possibly shared, and will be entitled to four meals a week during term-time (weeks 0-9 inclusive) free of charge.
She/he will also be entitled to apply for conference/ research funds of up to £300 a year.
