University of Reading: Research Studentships at the Dept of French Studies
The University of Reading offers Research Studentships in two areas of interest to potential research students in French Studies.
The University Research Scholarships are open to home/EU and overseas students (tho they pay fees only at the home/EU rate) across the whole University. These URSs are for three years and cover fees & maintenance up to £500 above the current Research Council [AHRB] rate.
The Faculty of Letters Research Studentships in the Arts & Humanities are open to the depts which fall under Arts & Humanities. They pay at the same rate and also give research travel etc funding allocation of £800, administered via the Department. Applicants must, if eligible, also apply to the AHRB.
Both these Studentship Schemes have a closing date of 25 February 2002. By that date, applicants must have been accepted by the Department.
The Department of French Studies, which received a 5 rating in both the 2001 and 1996 RAEs, has 11 full-time research-active staff and currently 12 research students. Its research areas range, both in culture/literature and in history/politics, from medieval to contemporary studies, including comparative studies and specialisms in 16c, Canada, Gide, Beckett, and the body. It is the founder member of the 2001 Group of seven southern-region universities which runs twice-yearly Study Days and other activities.
Research students in the Department have their own office, computer etc., and can call upon research travel funding of £250 pa; teaching opportunities in the department are also available.
