Research Officer (three year contract)
(Canterbury Tales Project)
16,209 - 24,731

Following a major five-year funding award from the Arts and Humanities Research Board, the Canterbury Tales Project requires a committed Research Officer to work with the projects team in Leicester on the preparation and publication of the materials gathered by the project. The project is based in Leicester with partners in five universities in England and North America. It aims at the transcription, collation, analysis and electronic publication of all fifteenth-century manuscripts and printed editions of the Tales.

The project is using new computer methods to explore the history of the many different surviving manuscripts and is pioneering new methods of analysis and electronic publication.

You will have completed a masters level course with a concentration in English medieval studies and should have a strong interest in manuscripts and/or textual scholarship. You should also be computer competent. However, training will be given in the tools of transcription, collation and analysis and electronic publication used by the project. There will be an opportunity to undertake doctoral research using the projects materials. The post may also suit a recently qualified doctoral candidate who has a specialisation in a relevant area.
