Position Description:

The School of Languages and Literatures (SOLAL) at the University of Guelph invites applications for a one year contractually limited appointment (CLA) in the field of French Studies. The appointment will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, commencing on August 1, 2017 and ending on July 30, 2018, with potential for extension subject to review. Candidates should have a PhD in French (ABD considered) and a record of excellence in teaching and research. Excellence in teaching can be demonstrated by strong letters of reference, teaching evaluations, breadth of training, demonstrated competence in second-language pedagogy, and the ability to teach a variety of courses. Excellence in research can be demonstrated by the completion of a strong doctoral dissertation, publications, participation in scholarly conferences appropriate to the candidate’s areas of specialization, as well as strong reference letters. With 5.5 full-time faculty members, the French program in SOLAL offers both undergraduate programs in French (Major and Minor) and an MA in French Studies.

Responsibilities will include teaching six courses over the academic year and related service, including the coordination of a multi-section language course, overseeing the teaching of GTAs and international language interns, attending recruitment events, supervising experiential learning and/or directed research courses. The chosen candidate is expected to contribute to the intellectual life of the School of Languages and Literatures.

Qualifications: PhD in French Studies (ABD considered). A specialisation in second-language pedagogy and applied linguistics is preferred. Strong teaching and research dossiers. The ability to teach courses in French language, French composition, translation, or introductory survey courses in French or Quebecois literature. An interest in technology enhanced language learning would be an asset. Publications in the field of expertise. Excellent command of French and English.
