Interdisciplinary research project 'Intercultural identities in border regions. Belgians migration in Northern France (1850-1900)'

This interdisciplinary project aims at the historical reconstruction and interpretation of intercultural identities being developed in Belgian migrant culture in France during the second half of the 19th century (1850-1900), a period that has witnessed an exceptionally high level of migration (approx. 200.000 persons). In this project, three doctoral theses, headed by the Centre for the Historical Study of Intercultural relations of the K.U.Leuven campus Kortrijk will address different aspects of hybrid identity construction. The PhD under guidance of Lieven D'hulst will do research on transfer and domestication procedures within the domains of language and literature, with special emphasis on procedures developed in journals, poetry and/or narrative prose.
