PhD scholarships for international doctoral candidates (LMU Munich)

The PhD program in Literature at LMU Munich and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) jointly award scholarships for PhD students financed by the DAAD Graduate School Scholarship Programme (GSSP). DAAD funding is for up to three or (in the case of developing and emerging countries) for up to four years. Initial funding is for one year and extensions are granted yearly on the basis of the project report.

Scholarship holders are selected in a two-step procedure: Excellent international applicants who have applied successfully to the PhD program are nominated for a DAAD scholarship. The nominees must then submit an application form with supporting documentation. A committee at DAAD makes the final decision in the selection of the scholarship recipients.

The international PhD program in Literature at the University of Munich offers a systematically structured, research-oriented course of high academic standard. A faculty of specialists from 12 different disciplines provide a framework for study in which literature is approached from a wide variety of theoretical and methodological perspectives. An interdisciplinary approach to literature forms the basis of further enquiries into culture- and media-related issues.

The criterion for a successful application is a university diploma with an above average G.P.A.: For universities abroad, this diploma should be at least equivalent to the German Magister Artium, Diplom, or Staatsexamen; e.g., the Master of Arts “With Thesis”. The diploma has to be acquired in one of the subjects that are covered by the program.

Deadline for applications: November 1, 2015.
