CALL FOR PAPERS

The LYRICA SOCIETY FOR WORD-MUSIC RELATIONS is pleased to announce its annual colloquia at the National Opera Association's 2007 Convention (www.noa.org), to be held in New York City, January 4-7, 2007, at the Roosevelt Hotel, Madison Avenue at 45th Street. Lyrica's sessions will be held on Saturday, January 6th, from 9-11 a.m. and from 2-4 p.m.

To complement the National Opera Association's Legacy Project, which honors African-American singers, LYRICA's sessions honor African-American composers and composers of the African diaspora.

Our 2007 colloquia will endeavor to forge into relatively uncharted musicological and ethnomusicological territory. We seek to explore the Francophone African-American repertoire, specifically, Louisiana, Haiti, Guadeloupe, Martinique (et al), for our first session, and the repertoires of Francophone Africa, specifically, French West Africa and French Equatorial Africa, for the second. Repertoire may include, in addition to opera and operetta, other forms of stage works, ceremonial and religious rites and rituals.

Interested musicologists, ethnomusicologists, anthropologists, cultural historians and literary scholars should submit abstracts not exceeding 250 words, with updated biographical notices by November 15th to:

lyricasociety@aol.com; citing LYRICA/NOA in the subject line.

Papers read at Lyrica's conference sessions are automatically considered for publication in the Society's peer-reviewed journal, "Ars Lyrica". Participating scholars are expected to be or to become bona fide members of the Lyrica Society.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Cordially,

THE LYRICA SOCIETY FOR WORD-MUSIC RELATIONS
