PhD Studentships-Lectorships in French

(Postes de Lecteur-doctorant dans le Département de Langues Vivantes)

The Department of Modern Languages is seeking to award a number of studentships for doctoral research, to run for three years from October 2009 to September 2012.  In addition to their doctoral research, the successful applicants will be required to teach French Language (180 hours in each academic year). Their tuition fees will be waived, and they will receive remuneration in the form of a Postgraduate Teaching Bursary of £10,000 per annum.

Entry criteria

To apply you must be:

  • able to demonstrate outstanding potential for doctoral research in the Department of Modern Languages at Exeter. (Normally, candidates will have successfully completed a relevant Masters degree by the end of September 2009);
  • a native speaker of French and currently have an excellent command of spoken and written French;
  • able to demonstrate willingness and aptitude to teach and assess French Language (written and spoken) to our undergraduates who have normally studied the language for seven years at school.

It is essential that there is a potential supervisor in the department for your proposed research topic.

1. A completed University of Exeter application form (in hardcopy).

2. The names and e-mail addresses of two people who will be able to provide an academic reference for you.

3. A Curriculum Vitae.

4. A 750 word outline proposal for your PhD research, identifying research aims and questions, methodology, any required resources and/or sources, and accompanied by a bibliography.
