James Joyce in Europe's Literatures

On 26 and 27 March the James Joyce Centre of the University of Antwerp will organise a conference on the influence of James Joyce on European literature. This conference is part of a large-scale project of the School of Advanced Studies of the University of London on the influence of British writers on European literatures. Researchers from all over Europe will write essays on their respective literary traditions for a book of 800 pages, which will be published in 2002 by Athlone Press. Five years later an electronic database will follow.
At the conference some of the contributors to the book will present their work, but we also invite other scholars to send in paper proposals. In addition, the book still lacks contributions about Joyce's influence on Portuguese, Czech and Slovak literatures and the literatures of most of the former Soviet republics, including Russia.
Please send proposals of no more than one page, with a short cv, email address and university affiliation before January 15 to the address below and note that the James Joyce Centre will also host another conference on Genetic Joyce Studies, later the same week, on 29 and 30 March.
