Gordon Distinguished Professor of French

The College of and Graduate School of Arts and Sciences with 10,000 students and 750 faculty members, is the largest of the University of Virginia's 11 schools and is the institution's intellectual core. The Department of French in the College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Virginia invites applications from scholars of significant international stature, at the rank of full professor or the equivalent, to hold the appointment of the Gordon Distinguished Professorship. The successful candidate will have an exceptional record of publication both in the U.S. and abroad, and will express a commitment to contribute to the scholarly life of the Department of French and cognate language and literature departments, as well as to the University as a whole. Research and/or teaching interests related to the University of Virginia's Gordon collection (http://www2.lib.virginia.edu/rmds/portfolio/gordon/) of early print works from France are especially welcome.

Duties will include teaching four courses per year at the undergraduate and graduate level in agreement with the chair of the Department. Candidates will also be expected to provide service to the Department, University, and professional organizations. Review of applications will begin September 21, 2014. The appointment will begin on August 25, 2015.
