CALL FOR PAPERS:

This conference aims to take stock of the genealogy of current literary practices and their critical adjuncts with a view to speculating on future developments in both literature and criticism. An inter-disciplinary approach will be adopted so as to provide the basis for dialogue between the various disciplines currently inputting into literary and critical production, including media studies, cultural studies, philosophy, literary theory, rhetoric, poetics, theology, sociology and psychology.

Papers, short papers, and workshops are invited on issues related to any of the following themes:

  • Epochs of literature

  • Genealogy of critical discourse on literature

  • Relation between various literary genres

  • Blurring of literature/criticism distinction

  • Philosophy and Literature

  • Contemporary religious experience in literature

  • Digital and virtual literature

  • Conflicts in contemporary literature

  • Disciplinary topics in literature

  • Regionalism and contemporary literature

  • Literature and education/the university

  • Avant-gardism

  • The future of literature and criticism

Papers will be considered on any related theme. 300 word abstracts should be submitted by Monday 22nd November 2004. If an abstract is accepted for the conference, a full draft paper should be submitted by Friday 11th February 2005.

300 word abstracts should be submitted to the Organising Joint Chairs; abstracts may be in Word, WordPerfect, PDF or RTF formats.

The conference is part of the ‘Probing the Boundaries' programme of research projects. It aims to bring together people from different areas and interests to share ideas and explore various discussions which are innovative and exciting.

All papers accepted for and presented at this conference will be published in an ISBN eBook. Selected papers will be developed for publication in a themed hard copy volume.
