To mark the Roland Barthes centenary, the editors of French Studies and French Studies Bulletin have put together a virtual issue that makes a large number of previously published items on Barthes freely available and downloadable until the end of the year. You will find the table of contents at:

The virtual issue includes four articles from French Studies, the first of them a retrospective on Barthes written by John Sturrock in 1981, with major subsequent contributions by Johnnie Gratton, Michael Moriarty, and Peter Dayan. An état présent by Claude Coste, due to appear in the July 2015 issue of the journal, will soon be added to the collection. You will also find four shorter articles (one each by Peter Collier and Diana Knight, and two by Nicholas de Villiers) that have been published in French Studies Bulletin. Last, but not least, there are no fewer than thirty reviews, dating from Jean Seznec's 1967 review of  Raymond Picard's Nouvelle critique ou nouvelle imposture through to the present day (four major books on or including Barthes were reviewed in French Studies in 2014). Together with the articles and shorter contributions, these reviews offer a fascinating overview of many years of scholarship, and an insight into changing preoccupations.
