Call for Articles: Framed
!

Abstracts for articles are requested on the theme of Framed! from research students in any area of French Studies including those working across disciplines, for example: comparative literature, music, history, gender studies, post-colonialism, and all aspects of the fine and applied arts, including film and photography.
Possible subjects for articles include:
being framed: characters, readers, authors
boundaries and borders: selection and exclusion from the frame
framing the text: prefaces, illustrations and epilogues, bookends, editorial stances/bias
framing the concept: cultural/theoretical/linguistic/philosophical and political frameworks
framing the picture: portraiture, vignette, snapshot, mise-en-scène, filmic frames
freeze-frame: in and out of focus, manipulating the image
deceptive frames: illusion, delusion and misrepresentation
frames of reference
framing the past: nostalgia, myths and legends

Following selection of abstracts, participants will prepare draft articles, in English or French, of up to 5,000 words, to be submitted to the organizers by end January 2006. The articles will be distributed to all participants prior to attending the Publication Workshop in February (which will be held in either London or Reading). Oral presentation of articles (maximum 15 minutes for each participant) followed by group discussion at the workshop will allow for the joint creation and editing of this themed volume of articles.

The 2001 Group is an inter-university postgraduate community in French Studies, funded by the AHRC (www.ahrc.ac.uk) in 2004-6. Current members are based in southern England. The third in-house publication of the 2001 Group has been made possible by a retention of funds from HEFCE's Collaboration Programme in Modern Languages (2001-2004).
