The University seeks to appoint an exceptional scholar to a Chair of French by 1 September 2007 or as soon as possible thereafter. The Department of French enjoys an outstanding reputation and has maintained a strong intake of highly qualified and well-motivated applicants for its undergraduate courses. In seeking to make an appointment to this Chair the University is reaffirming its commitment to international excellence in the field of modern languages. The successful candidate will have an established international reputation in research and publication, and will show the potential to maintain and further enhance this reputation. He or she will make a key contribution to the standing of French at Bristol as a centre of excellence in teaching and research.
