Trinity College Dublin, The University of Dublin is seeking to fill the following full-time academic position:

Professor of French (Chair of French 1776), Permanent contract, full time. Candidates must have a PhD in a Ph.D. in French and/or Francophone Studies broadly conceived and an internationally distinguished record of research and publication relating to French studies.

Appointment will be made on the Professorship Salary Scale at a point in line with Government Pay Policy (€106,516 - €136,276 per annum).

The successful applicants will be based on the main Trinity Campus, Dublin 2 or designated premises.

Post summary
The School of Languages, Literatures and Cultural Studies at Trinity College Dublin is looking to make an appointment to the Chair of French (1776), one of the oldest Chairs of French in the world. The post is tenable from 1 September 2017 and arises following the retirement of Professor J. Gratton. The post holder will be expected to have and maintain a distinctive international profile of research excellence in French Studies.

This post is of international standing with previous holders including eminent scholars who have provided national and international leadership in the discipline. In making this appointment, the College is reaffirming its commitment to the role of languages in the humanities, and to the central role of the humanities in realising the academic and societal goals of a 21st century university.
