AN INTERDISCIPLINARY POSTGRADUATE CONFERENCE
8th and 9th March 2003

We invite speakers from disciplines such as literature and literary theory, philosophy, history, cultural studies, and film theory, critically to explore different interpretations of beginnings.
Possible topics for consideration might include:
The End of the Beginning; Secular Beginnings; Text and Translation; Myths of Creation; The Original Forgery; Returning to the Mother Tongue: Language and Dialect; Roots, Routes and Rhizomes; Origins and Diaspora; Early Representations of Gender; Childhood; Locating the Primal Scene; The History of Origins; Repetition and the Search for a New Beginning; The Birth of Genre; The Renaissance of World Cultures; Unravelling Genres; Beginnings of Narrative Strands; Genres, Media, and Theories of Beginning; Tracing the Intertext; The Beginning of the End
