The Department of Modern Languages and Cultural Studies (MLCS) in the Faculty of Arts at the University of Alberta invites applications for a position at the rank of either Associate Professor (tenured, entry-level) or advanced Assistant Professor (untenured) in French and la Francophonie. Candidates must hold a PhD. MLCS is particularly interested in candidates whose teaching and research include a cross-cultural and interdisciplinary perspective with relevance to issues such as, but not limited to, globalization, environmentalism, Third World, gender, technology, identity, film. Teaching duties will include language, literature, and culture at undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful candidate will have a strong scholarly profile and extensive teaching credentials, with native or near-native proficiency in French. Competence in other related areas such as Translation, Popular Culture, or Media, as well as proficiency in another language relevant to MLCS would be considered assets.
MLCS (http://www.mlcs.ca/) is a highly interdisciplinary department with 38 faculty where 17 languages are taught and literature, culture, applied linguistics, languages and cultural studies, translation as well as folklore are all actively pursued. The Department offers undergraduate as well as graduate programs at the MA and PhD levels in several languages, literatures and cultures. This position will strengthen the French discipline and encourage the development of new possibilities.
