Assistant Professor of French: North African and Beur Literatures and Cultures
Applications are invited for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level to commence July 1, 2010, subject to final budgetary approval.
The Department is seeking a specialist in Maghreban Literature and in the cultural and literary production of North African migrants to France and their offspring. Secondary interests in other areas of the francophone world and/or postcolonial studies would be an asset.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and/or graduate courses in all periods of the field of specialization, and occasionally French language courses at the undergraduate level. He or she will be expected to maintain an active program of research, teaching and service. We seek outstanding candidates with bridging interests who will complement existing strengths within the Department and in programs and units such as African Studies, European Studies, Theatre and Film, and Gender Studies.
A completed PhD (or solid indication of imminent completion) in French Studies is required. Candidates must have native or near-native fluency in French, with a good command of English, and are expected to demonstrate potential for high quality research and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
Applications must include a letter of application, a curriculum vitae, a description of current and future research and teaching interests, evidence of teaching effectiveness, and a sample of written work. Applicants should also arrange for three letters of reference to be sent directly to:
