University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign - Levis Faculty Center
September 13th and 14th, 2012
The Department of French at the University of Illinois is proud to announce a symposium to honor the lasting scholarly contributions of Lawrence R. Schehr. Our colleague, a scholar of international stature in the fields of nineteenth- and twentieth-century French literature, Cultural Studies, Critical Theory, and Gay, Queer, and Gender Studies, died suddenly June 30, 2011. His numerous books and publications include French Gay Modernism, Figures of Alterity: French Narrative and Its Others, Rendering French Realism, and The Shock of Men: Homosexual Hermeneutics and French Writing.
With this conference, we hope to bring together a small group of eminent scholars to talk about Larry Schehr’s profound impact on a wide range of scholarly fields. We therefore solicit twenty-minute papers exploring any aspect of his work.
We welcome abstracts of 250-400 words (in English or French) for papers twenty minutes in length.
Please send your abstracts by December 1st, 2011 to schehr.symposium@gmail.com.
