Caribbean Online - Routes to Roots

The Institute of Commonwealth Studies Library is pleased to announce Caribbean Online - Routes to Roots, an online exhibition of archives relating to the Caribbean, and part of the 2004 Archives Awareness Campaign.

Themes included in the exhibition include slavery, war, agriculture and trade and politics. The site includes digital copies of a poster advertising slaves for sale in Jamaica, correspondence of plantation owners and certificates of compensation following emancipation. Also included are photographs of soldiers from the Caribbean who fought in World War One as part of the British West Indies Regiment, and photographs and pamphlets which illustrate the development of modern trade unions and politics in the region.
