The Smith College French Department has received authorization to fill a tenure-track assistant professorship in North African / Middle Eastern literature and culture of French expression. Since you work in this field, we hope you can help us identify candidates for this position. Here is the official description that will appear in the MLA Job List:

Tenure-track position as Assistant Professor of French with regular contributions to the Comparative Literature program. We seek a specialist in North African / Middle Eastern literature and culture of French expression, with experience and interest in teaching French language at all levels. Expertise in the area of Arabic and Islamic cultures welcomed. Initial three- or four-year contract, beginning September 2003. Native or near-native fluency in French and English required. Ph.D. in hand preferred.
