POSTGRADUATE STUDY IN FRENCH AT THE UNIVERSITY OF BRISTOL
The Department of French at The University of Bristol invites
applications from prospective postgraduate students. Students may apply
either for a one-year Master's degree by a directed research programme,
or for a higher research degree. The Faculty of Arts offers a number of
scholarships in each session, covering both fees and living expenses.
Commonwealth citizens may also apply for funding under the Commonwealth
Scholarship and Fellowship Plan (CSFP) (further details below).
With fifteen full-time members of staff, the Department can provide
supervision in specialities covering the range of French Studies, and
it offers a lively and supportive environment for its postgraduate
students. The Department is also involved in a number of taught MA
programmes, e.g. Medieval Studies and Translation Studies. Training in
research skills and methodologies is available both at departmental
level and through the Arts Faculty Graduate Centre.
A strong network of partnerships has been set up both with other
Universities in the region and with French Universities. A co-tutelle
agreement for joint supervision of certain doctoral students is now in
place with the Ecole des hautes études en sciences sociales. Our
postgraduate students also have the opportunity to benefit from an
exchange agreement set up with the Ecole Normale Supérieure, or to take
up one of our exchange lecteurship posts at the Universities of
Martinique, or Bordeaux I and II.
We welcome applications from a diversity of academic and international
backgrounds and are happy to advise you on the path most appropriate to
your own interests and circumstances. Full details on postgraduate
study in the department, including application procedure and funding
information, can be accessed through the departmental web page:
