Celebrating Diderot Studies
30th and 31st October 2009
Oxford Besterman Centre for the Enlightenment and the Maison Française d'Oxford
This conference will be a celebration 60 years of the journal, Diderot Studies.
We hope to bring together a large number of colleagues and students researching and teaching Diderot in the UK and beyond. We invite papers of no more than half an hour in length on any aspect of Diderot, but would be particularly interested in papers that treat the following:
Additions and Supplements
Diderot's work often takes the form of refutations, observations, supplements, even translations, and this way of writing has often meant that he has been considered derivative, unoriginal, even a plagiarist. We invite papers that take on this mode of writing. Papers could reflect on Diderot's conception of authorship; they could
address the editorial problems that his writing poses, etc.
Papers can be in English or in French.
As well as the academic conference, we hope there will be a performance aspect to our celebration...
If you wish to propose a paper or wish to attend, or if you require any further information, please contact us. The deadline for submitting proposals is 1st October 2008.
