Musée Walters
Nouveau site Internet

Dear Friends
The Manuscripts Department at The Walters Art Museum is pleased to announce two new websites that may be of interest.
www.waltersmanuscripts.org
This site contains all the illuminations in 23 fourteenth and fifteenth century Italian manuscripts at the Walters Art Museum. These manuscripts are currently on exhibit in “Dressed In Gold: Books of the Italian Renaissance”, on view at The Walters until January 7. The site is a great step forward in the digitization of The Walters Collection of Illuminated Manuscripts, and is part of a wider strategic initiative by The Walters Art Museum to make it collections available on-line. The long term goal is to have the whole manuscript collection available online.
I am most grateful to Martina Bagnoli of the Manuscripts Department, who curated “Dressed In Gold”, Lynn Ransom, lately Mellon Fellow in the Department, who devised the format for the database, Kate Siplon from our Registrar’s Office, who worked hard to create a workable interface for the public from our somewhat unwieldy collections management database, Susan Tobin and John Dean for the photography, and Robert Wray, and all at Innovative Technology Consulting Corporation, who worked on the project and who so kindly host the site.
www.archimedespalimpsest.org
This site presents a summary of six years of work to conserve, image and study the Archimedes Palimpsest, a tenth-century manuscript containing treatise by the great Greek Mathematician. The project is entering its final phases, and work will be complete in about three years time. It has generated much public interest. I do hope this site will answer questions that enthusiasts might have.
Thank You
Will Noel
