SIX POSTGRADUATE BURSARIES AVAILABLE IN THE SCHOOL OF MODERN LANGUAGES, UNIVERSITY OF NEWCASTLE UPON TYNE
The School of Modern Languages at the University of Newcastle upon Tyne is pleased to announce six postgraduate scholarships for September 2005. The awards are tenable for the duration of the programme of study (one year for MA programmes, three years for PhD programmes).
- Two PhD Scholarships (value £4000 and £3000), available to UK or EU students, conditional on submission of an application to the AHRB or ESRC Doctoral Award Schemes. The Scholarships are not available for IPhD applicants. Applicants should contact a relevant potential supervisor in the first instance. They should bear in mind that the deadline for submission of completed AHRB/ESRC proposals to the School is 21 March 2005, and that to submit an application to the AHRB or ESRC, they will need to be holding an offer of a place from the University. There is no separate application form for these two Scholarships; all candidates who apply for AHRB or ESRC funding will be considered eligible.
- One International Research Scholarship (value £2000), available to International students for PhD programmes. This includes the standard PhD programme as well as the two IPhD programmes we offer (Translating and Interpreting; Film Studies).
- Two International Taught Postgraduate Scholarships (value £1500), available to International students for the following programmes: MA in Translating and Interpreting, MA in Film Studies, (projected) MA in Second Language Acquisition.
- One International Postgraduate Scholarship (value £1500), available to International students either for PhD/IPhD programmes or for taught programmes (as above).
Applicants for International Scholarships should consult the University's International Scholarships webpage (http://www.ncl.ac.uk/postgraduate/international/uniawards.phtml) for details of the application procedure. Details of research areas in the School can be found here: http://www.ncl.ac.uk/sml/postgrad/themes.php.
