A Symposium In Rhetoric: Rhetoric In A Changing World

The annual rhetoric symposium sponsored by the Rhetoric Committee of the Federation of North Texas Area Universities will take place on Friday, February 8, 2002 on the campus of Texas Woman's University (ACT 3, the third floor of Clock Tower), located in Denton, Texas.


This year's keynote speaker will be Don Bialostosky of Penn State University. His theme will be Mikhail Bakhtin and rhetoric. Graduate students of the Federation universities will be given an opportunity (both as a group and individually) to meet with Dr. Bialostosky to discuss research opportunities in the field of rhetoric.

Papers related to the keynote address or the symposium theme of rhetoric in a changing world are especially welcome, but papers on all aspects of rhetoric are invited. Proposals for entire panels are encouraged. Proposals of at least 250 words are due by Saturday, December 15, 2001. They should be e-mailed to the conference chair (see below). Notification will be swift.

The best paper submitted by a Federation graduate student will be awarded a prize. To be considered, the paper must be received in hard copy (no e-mailed or faxed papers) by Tuesday, January 15 (see below).

An evening reception with Don Bialostosky will conclude the day.

Registration Fee: The event is free for all Federation students and faculty. Non-Federation students: $10; all others: $20.
