51st International Congress of Americanists


 

La Comisión Organizadora del 51° Congreso Internacional de Americanistas, tiene el agrado de saludarles e invitarles a participar en este importante evento científico, que tendrá lugar en la Ciudad de Santiago de Chile, entre los días 14 al 18 de Julio 2003.
La Universidad de Chile como institución organizadora del Congreso se siente honrada de poder recibir a los estudiosos de las Américas y hace votos para que podamos compartir una fructífera semana de trabajo académico y un fraterno encuentro social.
Esperamos que nuestro nuevo Sitio Web pueda brindar toda la información necesaria sobre el 51° Congreso Internacional de Americanistas.

Historia del ICA
El Primer Congreso Internacional de Americanistas fue realizado en la ciudad de Nancy en Francia, el 25 de agosto de 1875, "apenas pocos años después de haberse inventado el término de América Latina". Su convocatoria tuvo como primer objetivo: "contribuir al progreso de los estudios etnográficos, lingüísticos e históricos relativos a las Américas, especialmente en los tiempos anteriores a Cristóbal Colón, e incorporar en el informe a las personas que se encuentran interesados en estos estudios".
Durante las diez primeras versiones del Congreso Internacional de Americanistas, la sede se encontró en Europa y en el afán de alternarla entre el antiguo y nuevo mundo, fue en México, en 1895 la primera celebración en América. Desde Sus comienzos la lengua oficial fue el francés, luego se incorporaron, el español, inglés y portugués.
En su evolución, poco a poco fue dejando los estudios de carácter científico limitados a épocas precolombinas promoviendo en 1908 durante el congreso de Viena, la instauración de cátedras dedicadas al estudio de los idiomas indígenas y en 1932 en el XXV Congreso en La Plata, aconsejando la creación de reservas indígenas.
Hoy en día, el Congreso de Americanistas complementando estás temáticas, abarca: el patrimonio, estudios urbanos y medio ambiente, los estudios políticos sociales, derechos humanos y género, y el pensamiento, filosofía y educación.

The Organizing Committee of the 51st International Congress of Americanists, have the pleasure to salute you and invite you to participate in this important scientific event, that will take place in the City of Santiago of Chile, between 14th to the 18th of July 2003.
The Universidad de Chile as the organizing institution of the Congress feels honored of being able to receive the students of the Américas and makes vows so we can share a fruitful week of academic work and social encounter.
We hope that our new Web site can offer the necessary information about the 51st International Congress of Americanists.

 

History of the International Congress of Americanists
The first international congress of americanists was born in the city of Nancy in France, in August 25 of 1875, "a few years after the invention of the term Latin America". Its call had like immediate goal: "to contribute to the progress of ethnographic, linguistic and historical studies relative to the Américas, specially in the times previous to Cristóbal Columbus, and to incorporate in the report the people who are interested in these studies.
During the ten first versions of the International Congress of Americanists, the seat was in Europe and in the eagerness to alternate it between the old and new world, it was in Mexico, in 1895 the first celebration in America. From Its beginnings the official language was the French, soon were incorporate, the Spanish, English and Portuguese.
In its evolution, little by little abandon the studies of scientific character limited to the pre-Columbian times, promoting in 1908 during the congress of Vienna, the restoration of chairs dedicated to the study of the indigenous languages and in 1932 in XXV the Congress in La Plata, advising the build-up of indigenous reserves.
Nowadays, the Congress of Americanists complementing these thematics, includes: the patrimony, urban studies and environment, the social political studies, human rights and gender, and the thought, philosophy and education.

Cet important Congrès des Américanistes qui aura lieu au Chili regroupe des colloques et interventions dans presque toutes les disciplines.

Consulter le site web pour des informations détaillées sur chacun des colloques, panels et conférences, sur les modalités d'inscription et autres informations pratiques (oragnisation du voyage, programme détaillé etc.)  ainsi que sur l'histoire du Congrès et de l'Université du Chili.

Il est intéressant de relever que ce Congrès est né en France au XIXe siècle, mais que le français ne semble plus faire partie des langues utilisées dans le cadre de cet évènement.
