This year's conference takes us forward into the new millennium, and our aim is to balance the old with the new. We are especially interested in proposals for papers, sessions, and other presentations on fantastic film, and on the intersections between fantastic film and other media, especially literature. We are also looking for presentations that highlight the connections between the fantastic past and present, as well as those that focus on fantastic (and imaginary) voyages.
Possible topics include: Generation Starships, Deep Space Exploration, and Other SF Odysseys; the SF of Arthur C. Clarke; 2001: Film & Novel; The Legacy of 2001 in World SF & SF Criticism; International Attitudes to Space Exploration; Remakes and Sequels; Film as Futurist/Retrospective; Fantastic Architecture and Urban Planning; Sur-reality; Fantastic Television; SF/Fantasy and the Imaginary Voyage. We particularly welcome presentations on the "intellectual fantasy" of John Crowley, our 2001 Guest of Honor; as well as on ALL ASPECTS of the fantastic in English, American, and Commonwealth literature, comparative and other national literatures, cinema, television, drama, art, fantasy, horror, music, philosophy, sociology, political science, the sciences, psychology, religion, and interdisciplinary areas.
